Ditto, Pioneer Super Tuners are good too.
While you are at it, you may as well make sure you get one with built in HD Radio.
Also, depending on your needs, consider Head Units that support the following features as well:
    MP3 & WMA capable.
    Satelite-radio Ready.
USB Input Plug on the front (for Ipods, etc).

I have an Alpine CDA-105. All I can say is that I love it. It has rear usb and if you order from Crutchfield ($150) it comes with all the wiring stuff/installation things as well as the lower deck cover which, from them, is a little open-faced compartment. I drilled a slot in the back for the usb cable to poke through and just leave my iPod plugged in.

    Edit:
Also, you control iPod playback from the head unit, not the iPod

My only logical comparison would be put a bag over your head and zip tie around your neck, yeah water isnt getting into your lungs but either is oxegen. Anyone else not really understanding the plastic bag thing or is it just me.....

    plastic bag over intake.....

I think about all of the brands have a model that has a USB on the front.
As for the subs, I think most Head Units that have a sub output are probably about the same...sound quality for your subs will mostly depend on your subs amp.

I have experience with JVC in the past. They have some good quality units with a good price (as in lower than Pioneer or Alpine but with the same kind of technology on it).
