Okay, so here's the deal. My family and I are all n00b's to the dsm world, I got all of them in on loving 1g's. So what's wrong? Here's the story- my brother came to pick me up from work the other day in my mom's 1992 laser and as we were heading back down the interstate the oil light came on and oil pressure gauge buried on low, we pulled over and shut off the car. We got out and looked and saw nothing wrong. Got back in, tried to start, it started and started making a noise under the hood like "clank clank clank" (kind of hard to explain it, but thats pretty much what it sounded like) He shut it back off quickly and we got out again looked under the hood and...BAM..oil had exploded everywhere, we though we had through a rod or crankwalked or even blew the turbo, looked under it, all 4.8 quarts of oil on the ground. So me and my dad tore into it yesterday, checked the trubo, it was fine, but thats all we checked because that's what we thought the main problem was because there was no holes in the block or rods through it anywhere, and the oil was all over the turbo heat shield anyway. got it all apart, no shaft play?Then My dad noticed the oil filter had oil all over it and he went to clean it off and it spun freely with the touch of a finger. So today we got new oil filter, anti-freeze, and oil and put in it. Got everything put together and bolted back up,tryed to start, it started and started going "clank clank clank" again. We were pretty mad at this point because we had no clue. We tried to start it again and it would crank, but would not hit a lick. So this is where I need help, is it out of time? Is it blown up? What is wrong with my 4g63? Please add anything if you think its helpful! I don't no the problem here, and don't know what else it could be. Haven't checked the timing yet, so maybe that's it? I don't know, because as I said, we're all n00bs.

When you run a motor without oil it can cause a lot of damage. Sounds like that motor is gonna need to be rebuilt.....

Get yourself a factory service manual for the car.
+1 atleast a stock rebuild is pretty cheap.

But we didn't run it without oil. The oil didn't run out until we pulled off the side of the road, and we didn't drive it home, we had a rollback come and get it where it set, and we didn't run it again until we had figured out it was the oil filter and all the oil and had it all put back together. I think its just the lifters in it. If you guys know anything else that it could be besides that please do let me know!I know it could be the knock sensor also, but I don't know which it is. You should find some local DSMrs and see if they can help. We can't diagnose this online, unless you post a video at least.

is the noise coming from the top end or bottom end? take the valve cover off and check the lifters. When the oil filter backs off oil will flow until there is no more left and the pressure drops. while you dont think you ran it out of oil you very well could have moving at 70mph down the highway.

Do you think it could be the ignition coil too? I don't think it's the ecu because the guy we bought it off of said he put a Dsmlink in it, but i'll be pulling the panel off tomorrow just to make sure.1992 Laser Rs | currently down
